Questions

Answers without the jargon.

The essentials about proof, privacy, safety and employer conversations.

For students and graduates

Who is NITACON for?

Undergraduates, final-year students and graduates anywhere around NYSC — about to be mobilised, serving, or done — and the employers who want to hire them.

Do students ever pay?

Never. Creating a passport, publishing it, being found and replying are all free, and always will be.

What does “Work verified” mean?

We matched a project to you: the commits in its repository to your own GitHub account, or the domain it runs on to a file or DNS record you put there. Your passport says exactly which, for example “GitHub authorship verified — 47 commits over 8 months”, never a bare tick. You can add up to 2 projects.

Can employers see my phone number?

Not until you accept a conversation. Before that, employers who have confirmed their phone see your passport but never your email or phone number, and employers who have not see only an anonymised card: your first name and initial, headline, skills, NYSC status, city, graduation year and type of institution, how many projects you have, which checks you passed and when you were last active — never your surname, projects, links or contact details.

Can other students see my passport?

Not on NITACON: passports are shown to employers, never listed for other students, and never indexed by search engines. If you switch on your public link, the people you give the address to can see your work — never your email, phone number, salary expectations or video.

Can I see which employers looked at my passport?

Yes, every company that opens your passport: Passport activity shows which one, when, and how far NITACON has verified it. Employers who have confirmed their phone number can also preview your published profile in their search results, and a preview is not recorded. An opening from before the company agreed to our 26 September 2026 notice shows as “An employer”. Other employers see only how many employers opened your passport this week — a number, never who.

For employers

Will a candidate know I opened their passport?

Yes. Opening a full passport shows the candidate your company name and how far NITACON has verified you. The free preview in search is not recorded.

When are contact credits refunded?

If the candidate doesn’t reply within 14 days, the credit returns to your balance automatically — unless you closed the conversation yourself first. Replies in a conversation are always free.

How are employers verified?

In steps, and candidates see which one you have reached. Confirm a phone number with a one-time code; confirm an email address at your company’s own domain (or have us review your company’s LinkedIn page); then upload your CAC certificate and RC number, which a person checks against the CAC register.

What do candidates see when I confirm a work email?

A neutral note naming the domain — “NITACON has confirmed this employer reads email at yourcompany.ng” — instead of the caution notice. Students see only the domain; we keep the address the code went to as the record of that check. Free mailboxes such as Gmail or Yahoo cannot be used, because they show that somebody has an inbox, not that a business exists.

Can I pay for a verified badge?

No. Verification is never for sale. The only way to show “Company registration verified with the CAC” is for us to check your registration.

Do plans renew automatically?

No. A Pro term runs for the month or year you paid for, then your account returns to Free. Credits already in your balance stay yours.

Safety

What should I do if a message asks for money?

Stop replying, and report the conversation. No real employer charges for applications, interviews, training or uniforms. Messages that look like they ask for money are flagged in red under the message, and our team sees them too. The job safety guide lists the other warning signs.

What happens when an employer is reported?

Our safety team reviews every report, and the employer is not told who made it. An employer with 2 upheld reports is paused automatically.

Still unsure about something?

The safety guide covers how to spot a fake offer, and the privacy notice says exactly who can see what.
